Are you someone who has had experience of mental distress and/or using mental health services? Are you interested in being a Trustee with a unique charity?
The National Survivor User Network (NSUN) is an independent mental health national charity led by survivors and service users. It connects people with lived experience of mental distress, supports user-led community groups and facilitates and strengthens the involvement of people in order to strengthen their voice and ability to influence.
Our vision is of a diverse, inclusive and influential user-led network with the strength to challenge inequality and improve lives.
We are looking for up to three new Trustees to join the NSUN Board. This is a high-profile appointment to which you will bring your expertise and experience and an absolute commitment to a rights based approach in promoting the direct voice of people with experience of mental distress.
This is a ‘hands-on’ role with an expected commitment of at least two days a month. Board meetings are held every two months. We are particularly looking for people with an interest and/or skills and experience in fundraising. This could range from grant applications to donor giving and sponsorship.
This is a voluntary role with reasonable expenses reimbursed. Applicants will be expected to contribute to one of three main roles (see the Governance Specific Roles document), including:
· Fundraising and Revenue, in particular donor funding and alternative sources of income for charities, and awareness of the Code of Fundraising Practice set by the newly established Fundraising Regulator
·
· Communications, Marketing and PR, in particular external communications and marketing, using the media, telling stories, production of annual reports, social media, campaigns, blogging and developing the organisational communications strategy.
· Legal, in particular charity and employment law, understanding compliance with regulatory requirements (i.e. annual accounts and returns, roles and responsibilities) and campaigning and political activity.
Trustees are expected to:
· Successful applicants will be expected to actively champion NSUN, acting as ambassadors within their own community and through their own networks.
· Work with other Trustees to enable decision making and progress against NSUN’s objectives and long-term strategy.

Successful applicants will be formally voted onto the Board at the next NSUN annual general meeting TBC
The first Board for new Trustees is Tuesday 24th January, 2017
